O  The ways in which the life of Ransom E. Olds intertwines with the city of Lansing may have just begun when he as a child helped his father build steam engines for the boats that traveled the Grand would wander along it's banks and ponder the idea of combining buggies and engines. If engines could move boats up and down the river, why couldn't engines move buggies and carriages up and down the roads of Lansing? And so, perhaps it was in those moments over a hundred years ago that Lansing's future was forged. At that time, he may never have been able to imagine the ways his name would appear on places and things around the Lansing area. There is Olds Plaza, R E Olds Transportation Museum, and the Olds Park where the Lugnuts baseball team plays. A golf tournament is even named in his honor. Several more listings in the Lansing telephone directory incorporate his sir name. Even though some day we generations of Lansingites will no longer see cars with the Oldsmobile logo on it, Ransom E. Olds holds a firm place in the story of the city.
