Impression 5 Museum began as an idea about the same time as did plans
for Lansing Center For The Arts. Over coffee with a friend in 1972, the
founder Marilynne Rosenburg Eichinger, discussed the expanding need for
more cultural attractions in the community. Over the next thirteen years,
she and countless other local volunteers and private business interests
would give shape to her dream. "From that converted warehouse (1400
Keystone Blvd), dreams and ideas continued to emanate. Local foundations
became enthusiastic and offered their help. In three years, the museum
had outgrown its new home and began looking for larger quarters. In 1979,
a 135-year old warehouse known as the Reniger Building was purchased.
After much renovation, (which continues today) including volunteer labor
from various organizations, the museum opened in its new home on June
5, 1982." (pg. 96)
Today there are several permanent "hands-on"
exhibits at Impression 5 Center which support its popularity as one of
Lansing's premier attractions. Every year hundreds of children of all
ages spend time learning about the physical world around them. Whether
it's making "Slime", seeing how machines work, the wonders of
water, or any of around 200 displays, Impression 5 Museum makes one's
sense come alive.
