C is for Cooley Gardens, which are a visual treat. So take some time out, and feel the grass beneath your feet!

No City can grow without giving attention to creating parks. Lansing was gifted several in the last 100 years. They provide us all ample opportunities to relax, and "smell the roses."

C  "The Friends of Cooley Gardens and Other Green-spaces was formed in 1984 to restore Cooley Gardens. The garden was located at Main and Townsend streets in 1938 and was "dedicated to the horticulture education and pleasure of garden lovers." Its rose garden, peony collection, assortment of trees, shrubs and perennials graced Lansing as a horticulture showplace. However, in the late 1960s the freeway cut between the gardens and downtown and the city funneled parks dollars to other sites. The grandeur of Cooley Gardens faded until the Friends group planted more than 2,000 spring bulbs and put in an annual display. A master plan for the restoration and replanting of many of the plant materials which have been lost or damaged over the years was begun to restore Cooley Gardens." (pg. 101)
